"For
unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
"We should take nothing for
granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper
meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with
our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper
together." President Eisenhower, Farewell Address.
“Must there always be “wars and rumors of war”? Accepting the
inevitability of war is one thing, but glorifying war in the name of God
and claiming that it reflects strong character and patriotism is quite
another.” Congressman Ron Paul
ON WAR AND PEACE
The United States has been at war with other nations for about 93% of its existance. That is around 222 years of the 240 years that it has existed. While some of those wars may have been justified to prevent a greater evil from taking over the world (World War II comes to my mind) or to defend the people of this country from a real attack (1812), most of them were product of the greed of Washington politicians that had no problem with sending millions of young Americans to a secure death in the name of liberty and patriotism. The current situation in which the United States has military bases all around the world and holds active military missions in the Middle East in what's known as the "War On Terror" has turned out to be nothing but a hoax that threatens to destroy the freedoms that the citizens of this country are entitled to by their Creator. Both Republicans and Democrats have been remorseless when going to war, killing hundreds of thousands in different countries and conflicts, and for too long, too many people have been falling for the lies of the industrial-military complex. I happen to believe that the world is better when nations and different people live in peace and trade with each other. I happen to believe that when instead of investing in heavy guns and drones we invest in goods and diplomacy the chances of developing good relations with the nations of this world are much higher. I happen to believe that when Iraqui kids don't lose their parents because of a U.S attack they don't grow up hating America. And because of that, one of my basic campaign promises is to bring home all american troops deployed overseas and reduce the size of the military to a reasonable level that provides for defense. A return to the original vision of the Founding Fathers is needed: No standing army shall threaten the peaceful existance of the American Life.
The War on Terror, that like almost every war waged by the Federal Government has failed, is also attacking the very core of the American Spirit. Programs like the Patriot Act, the Net Neutrality Act, or Agencies like the NSA, TSA, CIA, etc. are destroying the rights and liberties of the people of this country. By spying on every American without the need of a warrant, the Federal Government has openly declared war on America. Will America respond? I will. Defending the NSA after knowing what we know thanks to Edward Snowden is defending a dictatorship that has costed too many lives.
And while many Democrats agree with this points (and maybe some enlightened Republicans do so, too), they have been lied to by liberal politicians who promise one thing on the campaign trail and then do the exact opposite when they hit office. Obama, that promised hope, change and peace in 2012, has droned more countries than Bush did before him. One cannot expect the United States to be bombing every nation on the globe and then not have people attacking them. The question that me must face is, do we want to stop the problem and live in peace or just attack more countries, more people, until no one is left? The choice is clear: If you want peace, the troops home and not to be waging war against everybody, you can vote for me and for liberty. If you want your loved ones to die in some lost place in Afghanistan, even if the people of that country are not a threat to the United States, then you can vote for anybody else.
